Learning Objectives:
After this session, you will be able to:
  • Identify common fraud risk factors present in an actual accounting and financial reporting fraud.
  • Determine the five components of internal control included in the COSO internal control
  • framework and how they relate to the case.
  • Recognize deficiencies in an organization’s internal controls and poor governance.



Presenter
:
Margaret Smith, Pittsburgh Chapter Board Officer and Webmaster

Margaret is a long-term member of the Institute of Management Accountants. She began her career in Rochester, NY with active participation in IMA by being a member of Regional Council, she went on to become Chapter President in the Elmira chapter for two years and to start a student chapter at the Elmira Business Institute. Margaret has participated at the National level in the student committee, Program Committee and Leadership Academy. Margaret is now a member of the Pittsburgh Chapter and serves on the chapter board. She also presented at the IMA Annual conference in 2013 and 2018.

Professionally, Margaret started her career in Corporate Accounting in the Treasury function. She moved from there into full accounting responsibility at several small businesses, and also had the opportunity to work in cost accounting and project accounting. Margaret also spend several years teaching classes in accounting, finance, software, and placement on a part time basis. After achieving the level of Director of Finance, she has moved into the role of project commercial management which enables her to broaden my perspective of implementing contracts. Margaret's company implements large multi-year contracts with an international workforce.

Amy Renner is a Community Relations Manager at IMA Global supporting chapters and councils in the Central US Region. This includes the IMA Pittsburgh chapter & IMA Ohio Regional Council and all chapters that fall within the council jurisdiction.
